Pnc EURO is a European Union funded comprehensive epidemiologal study on Streptococcus pneumoniae (Pnc) in four European countries. Information of the actual disease burden will allow appropriate vaccination programmes to be planned. The epidemiological research will also facilitate more accurate cost effectiveness studies.

The first pneumococcal conjugate vaccine was introduced to market use in Europe March 2001. None of the European countries have adobted it to their national programmes. The results of this study will help vaccination decisions to be made in the near future.
