2-1 Hemopericardium
Hemorrhage into the pericardium may be the result of severe chest trauma, myocardial rupture following infarction, or rupture of an intrapericardial aortic dissection or aneurysm. In this view the unopened pericardial sac is distended with blood. Rapid filling of the pericardium by blood interferes with cardiac function (cardiac tamponade).
