This is a defect in which the lining of the heart, (endocardium) and the heart valves become inflamed. The kinds of endocarditis are bacterial endocarditis, non-bacterial endocardium, and Libman-Sacks endocarditis. If not treated, all types of endocarditis are quickly fatal.
