Notes: The hallmark of a valvar vegetation is a highly mobile tag of material attached to a portion of the valve. Sessile vegetations can of course occur but are more difficult to distinguish from degenerative changes such as calcium deposits or fibrous degeneration. Best visualization of a vegetation occurs when an effort is made to view all portions of each valve (including non-conventional angles) using the highest possible transducer frequency.
